Check electric power steering, replace if necessary – Models 205 - C-Class; 213 - E-Class
Recall Number: 4693004
Daimler AG has determined that on certain Models; 205 - C-Class and 213 - E-Class, a lock nut may be cracked in the steering gear in the C-Class and E-Class (model series 205, 213, 238) vehicles with rear wheel drive. In the extremely unlikely case that a pre-damaged lock nut was installed in a vehicle, this could break if subjected to very high lateral forces on the steering. These are most likely to occur a low speeds, such as upon contact with a curb while manoeuvring or while parking.
In such a case, the lock nuts could break and the steering could lock. The risk of accident would thus be increased.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, the customer should make a booking with any approved Mercedes-Benz dealer and have the campaign carried out.

Active Brake Assist limited – Models: CLA (118 platform); GLE (167 platform); A-Class (177 platform); C-Class (205 platform); S-Class (217 platform); S-Class (217 platform); E-Class (238 E-Class); B-Class (247 platform) and CLS (257 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the CLA (118 platform); GLE (167 platform); A-Class (177 platform); C-Class (205 platform); S-Class (217 platform); S-Class (217 platform); E-Class (238 E-Class); B-Class (247 platform) and CLS (257 platform) model series, the software of one of the radar sensors on your vehicle may not correspond to the specifications.
As a result, the acoustic and visual warnings of the Brake Assist would indeed be output as intended. However, autonomous partial braking or maximum full-stop braking may not take place due to the limited radar sensor signal adjustment. This would impair the assistance function of preventing collisions or mitigating their degree of severity. In this case, the risk of accident or injury would be increased.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore update the radar sensor control unit software on your vehicle as a precautionary measure. The required work for this will take approx. 30 minutes. The required work as part of the recall will of course be carried out free of charge.

Check installation of leaky condensation drain hose – Models: GLE 300d, 400d and 450 (167 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that the drain hoses for the air conditioning system may not have been installed correctly in certain vehicles of the GLE 300d, 400d and 450 (167-platform) model series. As a result, condensation may leak into the vehicle interior and cause function errors on various electrical components. For example, the risk of fire caused by a short circuit could increase, the automatic emergency call (eCall) may fail, it may not be possible to unlock and/or start the vehicle, or to activate engine limp-home mode. This would increase the risk of injury and accidents.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore check the installation of the condensation drain hoses on your vehicle as a precautionary measure and correct it if necessary. The required work as part of the recall will of course be carried out free of charge.

Recall Campaign Number: 3191092
Torque at cross member for retrofitting a trailer coupling– Model: X-Class (VS40 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the X-Class (VS40 platform) model series, the mounting instructions for kits for retrofitting a trailer coupling on X-Class vehicles specified a tightening torque that was too high for the mounting screws of a cross member to be installed while doing this.
As a result, if a too-high torque was applied to vehicles by a workshop (or possibly by customers themselves) as per the mounting instructions, the failure of the threaded connection and thus a detachment of the trailer hitch from the towing vehicle cannot be excluded when towing a trailer. The following traffic would thus be at risk and there would be an increased risk of accident.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore replace the mounting screws and tighten the new mounting screws with the correct torque as a precautionary measure. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible

Recall Campaign Number: 6891079
Front passenger side airbag flap – Model: V-Class (VS20 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the V-Class (VS20 platform) model series, the plastic flap behind which the airbag is located may tear off during the activation of the front passenger airbag in certain V-Class vehicles. The correct restraint effect of the front passenger airbag can as a result no longer be guaranteed. In addition, the flap may be propelled as a single part or in splintered parts out of the instrument panel into vehicle interior and increase the risk of injury for the vehicle occupants.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore we will replace the instrument panel including the airbag flap on the front passenger side as a precautionary measure. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.

Recall Campaign Number: 4290002
ABS (anti-lock braking system) hydraulic unit brake lines – Model: G-Class (469 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the G-Class (469 platform) model series, the strong vibrations could occur at the brake lines to the ABS hydraulic unit in your vehicle because of exceptional roadway conditions (washboard roadway). This could cause brake lines to crack. These cracks could cause a minimal amount of leakage in the affected brake circuit. If brake fluid were to escape unnoticed over a longer period until the minimum fill level in the expansion reservoir would not be reached, a warning message would be displayed in the instrument cluster. The brake system would remain fully functional in this condition.
If this warning were ignored for another long period of time, the braking power of the affected brake circuit could be impaired by a continued brake fluid leakage. This would lead more and more to an increase in the brake pedal travel. In this case, an increased braking distance and accident hazard cannot be excluded.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore we will retrofit your vehicle with the modified brake lines with optimized routing as a precautionary measure. The work required for this will take approximately 4.5 hours. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.
The campaign has been launched locally and affected customers are in the process of being contacted to inform them about the campaign. A total of 105 vehicles are affected in the South African market.

Mounting of protective shield underneath spare wheel– Model: A-Class F/L (177 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the A-Class Facelift (177 platform) model series, the protective tinplate underneath the spare wheel recess might tear in the outer areas. With increasing mileage, a gradual growth of the tear up to complete breakage of the tinplate in the outer areas cannot be ruled out.
In case of multiple cracks in the same area, a complete loss of small parts of the protective tinplate could occur, increasing the risk for following traffic.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore we will retrofit your vehicle with the modified brake lines with optimized routing as a precautionary measure. The work required for this will take approximately 1 hour. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.

Welding of tank filler neck – Model: GLE 450 (167 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on a certain vehicle of the GLE 450 (167 platform) model series, the welding between the tank filler neck and the fuel tank may not correspond to the specifications.
In this case, the welding may be leaky, causing fuel to escape. Depending on the amount of leaked fuel, this may present a risk of accident to following traffic. Applicable statutory specifications relating to the leak tightness of the fuel system and evaporation quantities may not be observed in the event of a fault. A risk of fire can be ruled out.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore replace the fuel tank in the affected vehicles as a precautionary measure. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.

Daimler AG has determined that on certain vehicles of the CLA (118 platform); A-Class (177 platform); GLC (253 platform) model series, the four lock nuts for fastening the airbag may not have been screwed in in your vehicle. In the event of an accident in which the airbag is deployed, the airbag may detach itself from its base plate and enter into the vehicle interior at high speed.
As a result, the restraint effect of the airbag may not be ensured and the risk of injury for the occupants may be increased.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore we will therefore check the driver's airbag in your vehicle as a precautionary measure and exchange it if necessary. The required work for this will take approximately 30 minutes. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.

Threaded connection of right tie rod - Model: C-Class (205 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that on certain C-Class vehicles (205 platform), the documentation of the correct mounting of the tie rod to the right front axle stub might be missing. Due to the missing documentation, no confirmation is available whether the tie rod was correctly mounted to the right front axle stub during the assembly process.
Should the mounting not meet specification, the mechanical connection between tie rod and right front axle stub might not be ensured permanently. In case of a detached tie rod, wheel control on this side could no longer be guaranteed, potentially impairing the handling of the vehicle. In this case the risk of a crash would be increased.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore replace the tie rod of the right front axle on your vehicle. The required work for this will take approximately 3 hours. We ask that you make an appointment for your vehicle with an authorized Mercedes-Benz workshop as soon as possible.

Rework screw connection at steering bracket on frame – Model Actros (93x platform), Actros (963 platform), Arocs (964 platform) and Atego (967 platform)
Daimler AG has determined that the bolt in the front-axle differential in certain EQC vehicles (model series 293) may not correspond to the specification in terms of service life.
As a result, it cannot be ruled out that the bolt may fracture during the service life of the vehicle. In this case, the power transmission to the front axle would be interrupted. Pieces of the fractured bolt could lead to the differential transmission – and thus the front wheels – blocking. This could impair the ability to control the vehicle and increase the risk of an accident. Furthermore, the transmission housing could become damaged and oil could get onto the roadway. This would increase the risk of accident for the following vehicles.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore replace the electric drivetrain of the front axle on your vehicle as a precautionary measure. The required work for this will take approx. 8 hours.
