Software update ESP control unit (Electronic Stability Program) – Model 205 C-Class
Recall Campaign Number:5498904
Daimler AG has determined that on certain Model 205 - C-Classes, the function for controlling bus idle stored in the ESP software may not comply with the specification. When the ignition key is removed and the driver exits the vehicle, the bus idle function of the ESP is initiated according to the specification.
In this case, the brake lights would be activated permanently and a warning message indicating the brake light malfunction would be displayed in the instrument cluster. In addition, the ESP function would be deactivated and the parking brake could no longer be moved from its current position. The parking brake is activated automatically when the door is opened after parking is completed. If the described malfunction of the ESP control unit occurred, it would therefore, as a rule, no longer be possible to continue driving at a later time. Should the customer have deactivated the parking brake upon exiting the vehicle despite being prompted to secure the vehicle against rolling away, the vehicle could still be moved. The ESP function would not be available. In this case, the accident hazard would be increased.
As our top priority is the safety of our customers, Daimler AG, via its Mercedes-Benz service partners, we will therefore update the software of the ESP control unit on your vehicle as a precautionary measure. The necessary work will take approximately 30 minutes.
The campaign has been launched locally and affected customers are in the process of being contacted to inform them about the campaign. A total of 1797 vehicles are affected in the South African market.
